Description

The Bay of Fundy is a very important stop for shorebirds on their way south. They feed at low tide (they can't float or swim), rest at high tide. They stay for about three weeks and more than double their body weight. Then they fly non-stop to South America, using all the energy they acquired while in the Bay of Fundy. Only about 50,000 birds while I was there (peak is about 100,000) but we didn't get good looks, as a pair of peregrine falcons were hunting for lunch. Also, when they arrive, they weigh as much as a strawberry!!
