Description
In the dark, moist nooks and crannies of west coast Newfoundland forests, you'll find some pretty interesting fungi. They're often easy to spot, especially when their colours are so vibrant like this type of Amanita mushroom. These mushrooms, big and small, stand out amongst a sea of green vegetation. their stocks are sturdy and thick and their caps make for great cover for local bugs and critters, as well as food for some wildlife. While some species are edible, many Amanita are deadly poisonous and should never be consumed by humans, but are safe for beings like rodent and slugs, deer and large ungulates. This particular type of fungi primarily grows during the summer and autumn months, starting in June and lasting until November. This photo was taken in Rocky Harbour, Newfoundland.
