Description

The Pixelated Sky - The Great Sandpiper Migration - Shepody Bay, NB, Canada - Tens of thousands of Semipalmated Sandpipers take to the sky in a mesmerizing murmuration to thwart predation attacks by Peregrine Falcons and Merlins. Each year in August over one third of the world's semipalmated sandpiper population stop over in the upper reaches of the Bay of Fundy to fuel up on mud shrimp and crustaceans for their long journey south. The Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park is visible along the shoreline behind the flock.
