Avocet in the Morning Light

Description

During my first visit to Frank Lake, I wanted to capture not only the energy of its waterfowl, but also the quiet moments that define this vital wetland. After photographing the backlit action, I focused on this solitary American Avocet wading through a perfectly still patch of shallow water. Staying low at the water’s edge, I waited for the ripples to completely subside. The gentle morning light highlighted its distinctive upturned bill and warm cinnamon breeding plumage. The dark background created striking subject isolation, drawing attention to the avocet and its near-perfect reflection.
