For this scene the conditions only last for a few minutes during the early part of the day and even then, only for a 2-3 day period and not every year....the ice mounds have to be present and accessible and the lake has to be fairly calm. Somewhat clear conditions with a few clouds at the right location of the sky really help, and a bit of fog at sunrise is also advisable. Fairly good conditions occur every couple of years, but ideal conditions are much less frequent. My best shots of this site under my preferred conditions were taken in March, 2010. and were posted to my CGPC gallery at that time. The photo here shows some of the best conditions in March, 2013....certainly worth getting up at 5:00 a.m. for and one can only try.....maybe next year will be better :-). This image was taken along the Lake Erie shoreline just outside of Erieau, a small fishing village just west of Rondeau Provincial Park. The ice-covered pilings are the remains of some shoreline protection efforts several decades ago.
