The Nazca Lines were drawn about 1000 to 2000 years ago in Pre-Incan times by removing sunbaked sand to reveal the white-ish sand interior of the Nazca desert. They were first spotted in 1927,however, they were not designated as an UNESCO World Heritage Site until 1994, which explains the nearby construction of the road.
