The sea palm (scientific name: Postelsia palmaeformis) is, believe it or not, a type of kelp that's closely related to the bull kelp. The sea palm is named for its strong resemblance to the palm tree, though the similarity in appearance is entirely a coincidence. If you see the sea palm in British Columbia, then you know you're at one of the most beautiful and wave-exposed rocky beaches on the West coast of Vancouver Island, such as Botany Bay in Port Renfrew.
