As a comparison with my previously posted image, this one was shot just before sunrise in June, which is a stark contrast to the winter shot!

  • Camera: Canon EOS 5D
  • Focal: 105 mm
  • Shutter speed: 0.5 sec
  • Aperture: f/ 14

Thank-you everyone for your enthusiastic comments!
John: you are correct. I used a solid tripod and a 105mm focal length on a full frame body, stopped to f/14. I also used a neutral density filter to allow the slower shutter speed. Shutter speed was only 0.5 sec so not as long as some shots. When the sun is not yet above the horizon, some shots may be as long as 8 or 10 seconds. A perfectly calm wind is a huge advantage also. And many of my efforts are not nearly as colourful, every morning is different. This particular morning had a brilliant sky, and the final version was cropped a bit to eliminate the less dramatic part. Thanks for asking. And it was shot just after sunrise, obviously, not just before sunrise as my description stated. Sorry!

Great shot! My colors always bleed away. I am guessing you did this on a tripod, stopped down, and long exposure. Would that constitute a hint at getting the colour in?
