This is a Golden Retriever's nose. Dog's use scent like we do sight. A dog's brain is specialized to identify scents. That area of the brain is 40 times larger than a humans. Dog's also have unique noses, the pattern on their nose is unique to each dog just like fingerprints are to us. I feel that this is an important example of the smell sense.
