Hi James.... I did get a response from CG re the photo contest prize winner that didn't conform with the contest rules....
"Before we name a winner in any of our contests, we ask each photographer about the publication history of the photo (among other questions) that could potentially disqualify them from our competitions. For the photo in question, we were told that the photo had not been previously published. We have no choice but to accept the answers we are given by the photographers in good faith. In an effort to ensure this does not happen again, we will be revisiting the phrasing of our rules and regulations and eligibility requirements in our photo competitions."
So, no the rules are not enforced. I have seen other contests actually enforce their rules and disqualify contest winners, including BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year winner. I guess it is just too much of a hassle for a tiny little contest run by CG to do anything about it.
Hi Larry, just curious if you heard back from CG in regards to the image that won in another photo contest? I see that it is still posted as a winner....I would like to know if CG is going to enforce there own rules????? By the way, nice image, great light and love the way you captured the rocky mountains looking like breaking waves.
Did everyone check out the Annual Photo Contest winners? Some great photos there! However, one of them did not comply to the contest rules, as I understand them. I wont name the photo, but this is what I wrote and also emailed to CG.
"Previous contest winner... this photo won a $500 gift card and was featured in PhotoLife magazine."
Besides that, another issue I have this being selected a winner is that it is one of the least original photos in the contest. Darwin Wiggett may have been the first professional photographer to produce startling images of Abraham Lake in the winter, with its methane bubbles. Now, photographers from all over the world take basically the same shot and the photo that was a CG winner is just another shot with tripod legs in the very same spot as numerous other photos. I am not a sore loser... I realize that other people's photography is outstanding and I am just learning and doing my best, but to select a copycat image like this shows me what little effort the judges put into the contest. And did they not check out the photo history, to know that it is a previous prize winner and should have been disqualified?

Hi Wayne, I think I missed one of your emails and will respond to the other. I don't get replies back from CG.
Larry, did you receive a reply (explanation) from CGPC? Also did you get my two previous emails or did I send to wrong address

Beautiful! Love the pastel colour in the top half of the frame!
