I had an exceptional experience this summer on one of my treks in the back woods of North Vancouver Island. I happened upon a cougar staring at me about 100 yards away. I stopped dead in my tracks and we both assessed each other. I then started taking photos. It watched m for awhile not moving, then it crouched down and started eating a small kill it had. After which it moved a few hundred yards into some grass and started cleaning itself. After a thorough cleaning it got up and continued on. I've had many wildlife experiences but to have an apex predator like this comfortable with my presence and behave in its natural manner was by far the best experience!
