"Hails Bales†I took a bit of a drive Sunday afternoon to watch the clouds and try to get some shots of day time lightning near Fox Valley Saskatchewan. I didn’t have any luck catching any bolts, but the sky was pretty chaotic at times. I’m think we saw a funnel cloud in the distance while we were driving. As I was taking this shot, the clouds got awfully twisty at the end of this swath. A farmer pulled up to chat, and said that one of the local’s had a funnel at his farm a short time earlier. They would have been “cold core funnels†which rarely touch the ground. When they do touch the ground they are usually weak and not capable of much damage. Sometimes a special weather statement is issued on a day that the public might see cold core funnels, but these are much different than tornado watches or tornado warnings associated with larger storms.
