The Eastern Ottawa Valley is home to two ombrothrophic peatland bogs- Mer Bleue and the Alfred Bog. Both are connected by a watershed that runs parallel to the Ottawa River which starts at Mer Bleue, runs through Bear Brook, Cobb's Lake, and the South Nation River before passing through the historical extent of the Alfred Bog.
