This beautiful bird is singing his heart out but as it says in the Lone Pine Field Guide, Birds of Alberta, "In a perfect world, the Yellow-headed Blackbird would have a song to match its splendid plumage. Unfortunately, when the male arches his golden head backward, he struggles to produce a pathetic grinding noise." It goes on to say that the song might be the worse in North America. From the birds I have listened to, I would have to agree. Photographed in southern Alberta.
