There are 7 of these placed around the inner harbour of Victoria BC, the ancerstoral home of the Lekungen First Nations. These spindle whorls are at sites that were very important to these people. The spindle whorl is a tool used by the Lekungen and other Coast Salish Peoples to spin mountain goat and dog hair and diatematious earth into yarn that they then wove into blankets, capes and bedding. They are a very powerful symbol, I feel.
