A massive Steller Sea Lion basks on a buoy in the Pacific Ocean with the mainland of Canada visible in the distant horizon. What appears to be scars on the side of the sea lion were gained not from battles fought on the open seas but rather from man himself. These were serial numbers imprinted on its back by "researchers" with the motive of tracking to better understand these animals in the wild.
