This is an Upland Sandpiper, and one of the few shorebirds that do not nest at shore, but in a grassy field. Unfortunately, all grassland bird species are threatened due to farmers harvesting the fields while the birds are nesting and/or (most of the times both) spraying pesticides. We could have helped all the grassland species so much by leaving the fields alone until late summer when the nesting season is over.

I am fortunate when I am out in the Chilcotin, as there are a great deal of grasslands left alone! We have so many species of birds that come back year after year. Thank you for yer post, and I hope you had a great Canada Day! I worked at home - and then I went to work somewhere else. I must say I love household chores - and my other job too! Not too much of a big crowd guy anyway ha ha :)
