In Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park, small clearcuts are used as a means of forest management. This photo was taken in September, when the leaves and grasses were just changing colour. The stones on this tree stump are from the gravel bedrock that underlies the forest. The stones were arranged like this when I came upon the scene.
