On a calm evening while out on my kayak photographing a pair of loons with their chick an eagle flew in and perched on an evergreen tree. The eagle was intently watching the young chick. Immediately the loons let out their fierce piercing alarm. Imagine my surprise when both loons with the chick between them swam directly towards me and came quite close to me. I learned that day that the loons will seek protection from humans when they feel danger. A local kayaker informed me that this pair has nested at Pyramid Lake Alberta Canada for 17 years and he has seen this behavior over and over again. I love it when nature unfolds in such unique ways.
