Against the odds it would seem, this colourful sign for a liquor store remains on the ancient walls of a Roman town buried under volcanic ash and pumice for nearly 2000 years. The eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD swiftly ended and ironically preserved the ancient communities of Herculaneum and Pompeii.
