In past years including this spring I have heard the call of the Sandhill crane close to my home but have never been able to spot them. Well yesterday was my lucky day. In the field across from my home I spotted a lone sandhill walking in the tall grass. I grabbed my camera and headed through the field slowly keeping my distance as not to disturb the crane. I took a few pictures, scanned the edge of the grass through my lens but did not see a mate. The sandhill was calling out. I hope the mate shows up and they nest nearby.

Beautiful capture, Debra. The tall grasses provide just the right background for this very striking bird. I had the pleasure of spotting a family of them down a field a year or so ago when they were headed back south. It was the first time I had seen them and boy was it exciting just to see them and get some photos too. Hope you'll see more of them in days to come.

Nicely composed Debra. I sure hope you luck out and find that you have a nesting pair nearby, it would be awesome to document as the new family evolves. This shot is amazing. Well done

Beautyful shot Debra. I like very much the composition you've made here. Good lighting that make the bird stands out beautyfully. Appreciate also the contrasting black shadow line that split the photo. It gives the tall grasses some kind of moving effect. Very well done.
