A small wading bird that breeds in the Arctic tundra from May to July. They are known to be highly philopatric, with individuals returning to their natal breeding grounds year after year. These birds are presently on Vancouver Island, and some of them are showing breeding colours, a rusty, mottled back, and a black belly.
