A male Wood Duck in its brilliant breeding plumage is one of the most striking species of waterfowl we get to see. During the mid summer to mid autumn, males can look quite drab as they go through their plumage moult, but by December they are looking irresistible. This photo was taken in December a couple of years ago.

Nancy....thanks so much for your kind words!
Beautiful shot, Allen! There is no doubt that this duck is one of the most flamboyant in N. America. Love the details that you captured!
Thank-you Isabelle....it is a stunning bird indeed!
so true Allen...not sure how I missed this one.....stunning image ~
Thank-you Urszula and Christine....your comments are greatly appreciated. And I agree this web site is painfully slow much of the time, unfortunately....there is no real improvement in that respect over the previous CG site in my opinion.
Wonderful picture!!!
Wonderful colours!
I will have to check some other wildlife photos, it is nice to see what professionals see (biologist and all). The website is painfully slow though...
Merry Christmas, Urszula.
Thank-you so much Debbie, Kent, Kim, RR, Holly and Jade for your visits and comments!
