There is a story behind every picture and I believe that every good picture should tell a story. My story as a photographer started literally days after sustaining a serious Traumatic Brain Injury when the car I was in was rear-ended by a distracted driver. In 2019 it’s now coming up on the third anniversary of that accident and the functionality I lost that day still eludes me despite fighting every day to change that. It was in the days after the accident that I started experimenting with my new camera and rediscovered the beauty in the world around me though my camera lens. Today, photography has also become my most effective pain reliever and my inspiration to keep fighting. It’s my hope that by sharing these photos that chronicle my own journey, I may also bring hope and inspiration to anyone else out there who needs it. I have always been inspired by flight and it continues to be my favorite subject matter today. I earned my pilot’s wings 34 years ago during the summer before starting my senior year of high school (and just months after learning to drive a car). At the time of the accident I was also an avid outdoorsman and I had just bought my first DSLR, only weeks before, to capture images of wildlife that I was fortunate enough to encounter… wildlife that few in our modern society ever get to experience in person. The accident however clipped my own wings and left me with very restrictive mobility issues. Now all of my wildlife images are very close to home and along the beaten path but are still somehow ignored by most people walking by (this community not withstanding). I would also like to dedicate these images to some brave souls that shared their own struggles publicly and inspired me to make this bold statement.
