Canadian Museum of Nature
240 McLeod Street (at Metcalfe), Ottawa

On Saturday, June 8th, Canadian Geographic and the Canadian Museum of Nature invite you to Wildlife Photography Day.

Get tips from professional wildlife photographers, learn how to use Instagram and have your photos projected onto a live photo wall.

Visitors will also be able to view the winning photos of the Canadian Wildlife Photography of the Year 2012 contest on exhibit in the Stone Wall Gallery.

Meet our guest photographers:

Michelle Valberg
Michelle Valberg is an Ottawa-based photographer who fell in love with the Arctic the first time she went up north for a project with Adventure Canada. Though she makes a living out of studio and commercial photography, she is renowned for her images of Arctic landscapes and wildlife. She is the president of Project North, which sends hockey equipment to communities in Nunavut. When she’s not propped up on her elbows watching for polar bears on an ice floe edge, she runs Valberg Imaging, an Ottawa photo studio and gallery, with fellow photographers Valerie Keeler and Lindsey Gibeau.

Mike Beedell
Mike Beedell has spent more summers in the Arctic than elsewhere. He has been guiding trips in Canada’s Arctic, Antarctica, Greenland and other remote areas for 37 years and taking spectacular photographs all the while. His images have been published in Canadian GeographicNational GeographicEquinox, and many other publications; his work has even appeared in New York’s Times Square.

Scott Linstead
Scott Linstead, who calls himself a behavioural photographer, grew up with a fascination for building things that have to be foolproof. He wanted to be an aerospace engineer and was well on his way to a career in the field. He found the nine-to-five schedule, cubicle setting and punching numbers all day didn't suit him, so he switched to the teaching field, instructing math and science in public high schools. When his wife Stephanie bought a used bookstore, he finally had the financial stability to move on to photography. Today, he combines his technological know-how with photography to produce images that people wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity to see.
