Where could my photos be featured?

We are always looking for more ways to expose CG Photo Club member’s photography to the greater Canadian Geographic community. Here are some of the ways your photography could be featured:

Photo of the Week

Every week, we recognize one outstanding image that has been uploaded to a “Shoot This!” gallery during the preceding week.

We examine areas such as exposure, composition, use of colour and light, contrast, clarity, mood, framing, unique perspective - all these elements are to be balanced to produce the most brilliant portrayal.

Check the Photo of the Week page to see some our CG Photo Club members’ best work.

Photo of the Month

This honour is limited to the winning Photo of the Week photos of the preceding month. We announce the Photo of the Month in our monthly newsletter, Through the Lens.

Exposure

“Exposure” is a new regular department in Canadian Geographic that showcases top images from our “Shoot This!” assignment galleries. When we see a photo that we feel fits would fit nicely in an upcoming issue, we’ll contact you to hear the story behind the photo.

Special Interest Publications

CG Photo Club members also have the opportunity to be published in one of our Collector’s Edition special interest publications (i.e. Best Wildlife Photos 2012). We contact photographers who have uploaded extraordinary photographs and print them in the magazine, crediting you and your website.

Instagram, Facebook and Twitter

By posting photos to CG Photo Club, you are not only exposing yourself to our online photographic community, but also to our various social networks such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Throughout the week, we select superb Photo Club images to share through Instagram onto Twitter and Facebook.

Google+

Canadian Geographic has recently joined Google’s social network, and has been sharing the full-size versions of all Photo Club images shared onto Instagram. We also select Photo Club members’ images to run alongside digital content when sharing to social media. Canadian Geographic has launched a Community on Google+ (similar to a Facebook group) where Google+ users are encouraged to post their photos, news and travel stories to share with others.

OH D__ , I did not realize when I wrote a comment in 'Articles' that it would turn up in This feed. lol I thought it went to the staff and Media Editor only. There is so much I don't know about websites and how to work in them. In any case, I do hope this comment does get to those who have the power to make changes or provide information I can't seem to find elsewhere. I noticed when I went to FAQ that the first page says, Last updated in 2012, but on reading down the feed, there are posts from the start of 2014.

I've never clicked on 'Articles' before and I'm happy there is a place to make comments, suggestions and ask questions where I don't have to use facebook. I think it's great to get feedback on my photos and see it on other's photos. *Is it possible to make the comments feed a larger area or longer so if some one person, sometimes me, makes 6 or 8 comments, they don't take up all the area there or unintentionally bump off some one else's comment or feedback. I find it hard not to praise so many great photographs. *Is there any word on whether we will be able to make corrections on wording or delete comments we made and that sort of thing? *It would be great if members could converse with each other at their dashboards or some ongoing feedline for all of us somewhere. Thank you. I'll check back here for a few days to see if there is a response.

A few photo club members reported not seeing some of their photos on the site. The issue has now been fixed and those members' pages should have returned to normal. Please feel free to contact me at mcclelland@canadiangeographic.ca if you notice any other problems. Thank you!

Thanks Tessa,

Wow, lots of problems indeed, ever since they launched the new site! Is there any other members out there with missing photos from their profile page?

This is frustrating as I've been accumulating those photos for almost 5 years and now they're all gone,

Randy

Hi Randy, I noticed a couple days ago that all my photos submitted before January 2013 have also disappeared, Very disappointed but not surprised as this site has gone downhill fast and this is just one more example of that!

Hello CGPC,

I've been a member since March, 2009, and HAD several hundred photos accumulated onto my profile page since that time. I went on my site last night and much to my dismay ALL the photos, (except 3), were gone off of my page.

Any ideas as to what's going on? Thanks for the info and help,

Randy Burns

I would like to know when we submit a photo for a contest do you only use the photo to put in your magazine and your publications only and do you share or sell the photo to a third party ?
